Councillor’s Message
Volunteers celebrated this week and every day
This week, April 15 to 21, is National Volunteer Week and I want to thank all of the volunteers in Kanata South that help make our community feel like a home.
There are more than 13 million volunteers across Canada and thousands in Kanata who make a difference in people’s lives each and every day, so thank you!
It is a privilege to recognize our volunteers this week but let’s not forget to continuously thank our volunteers; such as members of various local associations/clubs, coaches, and many more.
Every Friday the Kanata Legion puts on a fabulous Fish Fry, which is open to the public starting at 11 a.m. for a great low price! This Friday I will be helping out the dedicated volunteers serving lunch with MPP Jack MacLaren. I encourage you to stop in, support our local Legion and enjoy a fishy dish!
Fill the Bus
On Saturday, April 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Kanata Food Cupboard is looking for your help for its Annual Spring Fill the Yellow Bus drive. They invite everyone to participate to help fill the buses with donated food items, which will be parked at four Kanata stores including Laura’s Your Independent Grocer, 300 Eagleson Road (Hazeldean Mall), and Real Canadian Superstore, 260 Eagleson Road. At approximately 4:30 p.m., I will join all of the volunteers to form a human chain at the Food Cupboard’s Warehouse Location (2 The Parkway).Volunteers are still needed to help form the human chain, if you would like to help out please contact Kerry Beer volunteer@kanatafoodcupboard.ca .
Cleaning the Capital
I want to thank Mayor Watson, Margaret Kellaway and the Bridlewood Community Association volunteers that joined me for a Clean Up on Sunday. The Spring Cleaning the Capital Campaign is now in full swing and it runs until May 15, I encourage neighbours, community groups and local businesses to register: ottawa.ca/clean or by calling 3-1-1 (TTY: 613-580-2401). Help us clean your street, a park, a school ground or a parking lot and then complete the short report to win.
