Olympic fever sweeps Kanata
With less than 100 days left until the London Summer Olympics a number of Kanata students had the rare opportunity to sign an Olympic Flag that is destined to the athlete’s village.
I was honoured to take the flag to several local schools last week and it was an exciting time for the students to make their mark on the Olympic Games and cheer on our Canadian athletes.
There have been a number of thefts from vehicles in surrounding areas and I would like to remind you to always be diligent when you leave your car. The Ottawa Police suggest a number of tips to help protect your car, please visit: ottawapolice.ca.
Spring is here and unfortunately that also brings new graffiti, I would also like to remind residents that if you see graffiti please report it. You can call 3-1-1, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or report it on the City of Ottawa website under the Service Ottawa Section.
Thank you to the Kanata Food Cupboard volunteers for inviting me to their celebration last week, thank you for helping to feed those in need in our community. I want to also thank the many volunteers at the Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre; your appreciation breakfast showed there is a lot to be thankful for in our community. Congratulations to Brigitte Sharma, who was presented with the 2012 Eva James Volunteer Award at the breakfast. A big thank you to all of the volunteers at the Legion’s weekly Fish Fry, it was great to help out this week!
Cleaning the Capital
There is still time to make a difference in our community by helping clean up our beautiful neighbourhood. I encourage neighbours, community groups and local businesses to register: ottawa.ca/clean or by calling 3-1-1 (TTY: 613-580-2401). Help us clean your street, a park, a school ground or a parking lot and then complete the short report to win.
