Tim Hortons Dragon Boat festival
I am privileged to have been chosen as the Honourary Chair of Dragon Boat Festival this year. The event which took place at Mooney’s Bay last weekend, was a huge success. I would especially like to thank Shona Flemming, Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation Coordinator and John Brooman, Executive Director of the Tim Hortons Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival. The festival would not have been such a success if it were not for their hard work and dedication.
There were 204 teams who participated this year, which is the most to have ever paddled in the festival. I would like to thank all of the paddlers for participating and making this year the largest Ottawa Dragon Boat festival to date.
I would also like to thank all those who raised funds and donated to the festival. Your effort has helped seven deserving local charities: the Youth Services Bureau, ArtsSmarts, the Bruyere Foundation, the CHEO Foundation, Debra Dynes Family House, the Ottawa Humane Society, and the University Of Ottawa Institute Of Mental Health Research.
Speed Humps in Kanata South
This City of Ottawa is conducting a pilot project using speed humps as an effective speed moderating measure. The speed humps can be found on Equestrian Drive between Huntsman Crescent and Redfox Place. This pilot project will continue throughout the summer months with the speed humps moving to various locations around the ward.
Around the Ward
I hope you can join me this weekend as a proud supporter of Canada Day in Kanata. The Annual Canada Day in Kanata Celebration is one of the largest community events in Ottawa with crowds of over 30,000 gathered at the Walter Baker Park off of Terry Fox Drive in Kanata. If you need a break from the heat come by my tent and relax in the shade.
I had the pleasure of speaking at the Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre’s Open House this week. I would like to thanks the donors and staff for their dedication and years of services.
I enjoyed attending the Great Race 2012 car show as it rolled into the Hazeldean Mall parking lot this past Tuesday. The Great Race is a world class rally event for vintage and collectable vehicles. I would like to thank Brian Goudge and Tim Thomas for their effort in bringing this exciting display to Kanata.
