This week I had the honour of greeting Ashley Gilbank as she rolled onto Parliament Hill, one of her stops during her cross country mission to raise funds and awareness for youth mental health. On June 4th, 2012, the Ottawa resident embarked on her journey across Canada. She began in St. John’s Newfoundland and will travel through 10 provinces to complete her 10,000km skate, finishing in Vitoria, British Columbia. All proceeds raised by skate4life will be donated to the DIFD Foundation at The Royal.
Kanata South Speed Board
I have heard from a number of residents in regards to speeding on residential roads within the community. I have been working with city staff to deploy certain traffic calming measures such as speed boards. These boards are a helpful tool that benefits residents, City staff and Ottawa Police Services. In response to these concerns, I have purchased a speed board that is to be used exclusively for the residents of Kanata South.
Out and About
This past weekend I had the opportunity to share in the 22nd birthday celebration of the Carp Farmers Market. The Carp Market is entirely made up of producers living in Ontario within 100 km of Carp. It’s important to support local farmers to stimulate the economy in the rural parts of Ottawa and the surrounding area. If you are looking for a Market close to home, you can visit the Kanata Farmers Market at 420 Hazeldean road every Saturday from 8am to 3pm.
I had the pleasure of attending the Classic Car & Truck Show Fundraiser at the Myers Kanata dealership. The event was a great success, with food and proceeds going to the support of the Kanata Food Cupboard. I would like to thank Rod and Rick Rafter for all of their effort in once again organizing this great event.
