Western Ottawa Resource Centre 25th Anniversary

On Sept 19, Councillor Hubley was pleased to attend the Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre’s (WOCRC) 25 anniversary celebration. Also in attandance were Councillor Wilkinson, Moffat and El Chantiry. Originally known as the Kanata Resource Centre, the WOCRC held its first annual general meeting in 1986. Within its first 15 years of operation, programs were established such as community support for seniors, violence against women, crises outreach, and youth and family services. The following decade saw the recognition of a need for services such as bully prevention, counselling for children who witness violence, as well as an Ontario Early Years Centre.

On Sept 18, Councillor Hubley attended the Kanata Terry Fox Run to show his support for raising funds for cancer research. In 2010, the Kanata Race raised $33,000. Since 1989 Kanata race has raised more than $511,000 .In 2010, Ontarians donated $12 million to cancer research by participating in 220 Terry Fox Runs and 3,700 School Events.

On Sept 16, Councillor Hubley had a great time with Kanata South residents at Expo 55. Councillor Hubley presented door prizes, chose numbers for a raffle, and had the opportunity to speak with many residents. In attendance were Mayor Watson, Councillor Wilkinson and about 40 exhibitors of senior services and 400 senior participants.

On Sept 17, Councillor Hubley held a Ward Clean Up as part of the Fall Clean Up the Capital Campaign. Councillor Hubley encourages residents to register and take part in Capital Cleanup projects. With your help Kanata South can win its second consecutive Ward Award for participation in the Fall Capital Clean Up. Special thanks to all the Kanata South residents who came, GCCA president Rob Nino, Tim Hortons Regional Manager Nadia MacDonald, Edgewater Tim Hortons owner Don GodBold and Mayor Watson for comming to help clean Kanata South.

Grassroot Grannies Ride to Turn the Tide

On Sept. 9, Councillor Hubley and many others welcomed back the Grassroot Grannies from their 270 km ride from Kanata to Almonte, Perth, Merrikville to Metcalfe and back to Kanata. Councillor Hubley presented cyclists with Certificates of Appreciation for the money they have raised for the Stephen Lewis Foundation.

On September 1,to kick off the fall clean up Mayor Wastson presented Councillor Allan Hubley with the Ward Award for the most active Ward in the City during the 2011 Spring Clean Up. Tim Hortons owner Bill Houldsworth and community member Steve Rahm recieved certificates for their dedication in past Capital Clean Ups.

On Sept 2, US Ambassador Jacobson unveiled a photo exhibit in recognition of the support and solidarity offered by the Canadian Public in the events following 9/11. Present for the unveiling ceremony were Minister Kent, Mayor Watson, Councillor Hubley, McRae, Taylor,Moffatt, Desroches, Wilkinson, Tierney. US Sergeant Barnes, Fire Chief John deHooge, Police Chief Vern White and Paramedic Cheif Anthony Di Monte also attended.
