Councillor Calls On Hydro Ottawa For Action
Ottawa – Kanata South City Councillor Allan Hubley has contacted Hydro Ottawa demanding answers on why residents of hisWard continue to experience power failures including the failure today that remains unresolved since early this morning along with recent failures that lasted more than an hour and 30 minutes.
Councillor Hubley believes that his residents need to know why after last year’s major investment in the system, his residents continue to experience this trouble and what is being done to ensure a stable power source going forward.
“Clearly, Hydro Ottawa has made significant investments recently in our infrastructure so why are my residents having to deal with outages?” said Hubley. “Nobody likes to come home to find they have no power. Residents have to deal with issues such as has their food gone bad and those with health issues may have very serious concerns when they cannot count on a stable power supply. These are some of the comments we have received and I want to do my best to eliminate those concerns” explained the Councillor.
Councillor Hubley intends to work closely with Hydro officials to make certain steps are taken to address whatever has caused the outages. He has asked for a report by Monday and intends to call for performance standards such as providing a credit to residents when their power supply fails for more than 90 minutes and/or when they experience three or more failures in a month of 30 minutes or more. Councillor Hubley believes the time is now for Hydro to be accountable. “Why should residents be the only ones experiencing losses when Hydro service fails.”
Residents are asked to report all outages to Hydro Ottawa by calling 613-738-0188.
