Decisive Action on Theft from Vehicles in Kanata South

The number of Theft from Vehicles reports were increasing in Kanata South this past spring reaching a high of 91 in June.  Councillor Hubley asked the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) to take any necessary actions to address the issue on behalf of residents.

There was a significant communication effort launched including Crime Alerts being circulated in the community and flyers advising residents to lock up their cars and valuables. Residents were working with the police service who were able to make three key arrests.  By August the number had gone down to 42 reports.

Councillor Allan Hubley said, “Thanks to the dedicated efforts of all the officers and the OPS canine unit, three more arrests were made and in September there were only 13 break ins reported.”

Hubley said that he congratulates the community and the Ottawa Police for their quick and decisive action on Theft from Vehicles in Kanata South.  He added, “Sometimes it is as simple as locking the doors on your car and removing your valuables like a cell phone or GPS and thieves will pass you by.  In this case police were able to make six arrests and a huge drop in cases has been experienced and for that we are all very thankful.”
