Canada Day Road Closures
Canada Day Road Races
Est. 1987 by Run Ottawa
NOTICE TO RESIDENTS:
The 2017 “Canada Day Road Races” will be staged on the morning of July 1st from the Kanata Recreation Complex on Terry Fox Drive part of the ‘Canada Day in Kanata Celebrations. The city of Ottawa has granted us a permit to close Terry Fox Drive southbound between Hazeldean and Castlefrank roads, Terry Fox northbound between Cope Road and Castlefrank, to allow us to set up staging equipment and get runners to and from the finish area at Walter Baker Park.
Our 10K event, which starts at 8:00 a.m. will use the following streets:
Terry Fox Drive south to Castefrank Road; Castefrank to Glamorgan (west end);
Glamorgan to Rothesay; Eagleson Road to Abbeyhill; Abbeyhill to Carbrooke; Desmond, Banning, Old Colony and back on Glamorgan to Castlefrank and then north on Terry Fox;
The 5K race commences at 8:10 a.m. and will use the following streets:
Terry Fox southbound to Castlefrank; Castlefrank to Sheldrake; Sheldrake to Morton, Morton to McElroy, McElroy to Rickey, Rickey to Winchester and then west to Terry Fox and then to the finish.
We have contracted 7 Ottawa police officers to assist in traffic movement and ensure the safety of runners Streets mentioned in the route descriptions will not be closed but there may be slowdowns at certain corners. We have 40 volunteers stationed at various intersections who will wear orange safety vests for greater visibility.
Those of you who live on any of the streets on our race routes, we ask that you park cars in the driveway so that we have as much of the roadway as possible and if you need to leave during the races, please be careful exiting your driveway or driving. We encourage you to cheer on the runners as they go by your homes. We expect over 600 runners per race. Many are residents of Kanata but we have a fair number of folks from other parts of Ottawa, outlying towns and many who have come to the area to visit with addresses from other parts of Canada as well as the United States.
Our partners once again, Bushtukah, and the Kanata Food Cupboard. The KFC provides us with a strong group of volunteers and we direct much needed funds to their organization. Should you have high school students in your household and they want to earn some community hours, it is not too late for them to get involved (see contacts below).
I trust this information is useful and invite you to contact me via email, joe@runottawa.ca or phone, 613-292-7102 should you have any issues.
Regards
Joe Du Vall,
Race Director
